Conversation #1: Why?

Why do we want to help online communities drive engagement, build bridges, and grow in numbers? What’s the reason behind setting up an online community? Why would people want to get in on this?

We asked ourselves these questions throughout the first quarter of the year and have communicated it with the people that we’ve collaborated with. This helped us understand the communities we want to be part of and it brought us to the teams that we were blessed with the opportunity to work with.

Resulting to more than a million in sales in 4 months, we learned that being clear on why you do what you do helps you find the answers to the challenges that come along. It also helps other people understand whether or not they would want to support you or become part of your community.

Conversation #2: What’s Worth Keeping?

A thematic question that prevailed as the world reopened from the pandemic and as the raging bull market transitioned into a bear market

The importance of auditing and focus has proved itself for us over again this year. Just like most marketers, we found ourselves scrambling for answers when the engagement started to dip in the bear season.

We had plenty of ideas and initiatives, but at the end of the day, what really worked best was doubling down on what was already working for the community. We had to drive more focus on what was gaining the most interest and re-acquainting ourselves with the core of why people joined the community in the first place. We archived all our other plans and directed all our attention to listening to and understanding the members as individuals that make up a whole.

In doing so, we encouraged the community members to step up to the spotlight and share their own individual stories that touched and inspired the rest of the group.

Watching people step into the spotlight taught us that there is nothing more powerful than empowering other people.

Which then brings us to the third conversation that brought in conversions for 2022;

Conversation #3: Who are we helping?

What drives them? What are their goals? What do they need to make it happen?

Listening intently and understanding the answers to these questions helps tailor community activities around actually giving people what they want. It helps in delivering value and speaking to their interests.

As the saying goes; interest is harvested not created.

Whether we’re working in Web2 or Web3, it’s no longer effective to just show up with a bang for the buck product and expect people to come knocking at your doors. We have to place importance on who we want to see and what they are really looking for.

One way to help us gain a full picture is by giving people the space and platform to share their stories or even share their expertise. We’ll get to know them a whole lot better and help them build stronger connections with the other people inside the community as well. I think you’ll also find that community generated content is golden.

Have these conversations with yourself and your team to make it through this transition and come out of this season stronger.
